Nigeria Returns To CAF A-License Programme After Nine-Year Absence

Nigeria Football Federation has announced plans to organise a CAF B-License refresher programme alongside a full CAF A-License coaching course as part of ongoing efforts to enhance coaching standards and technical development in Nigerian football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The federation’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, said the initiative forms part of the NFF’s broader strategy to strengthen the capacity of coaches across the country.

“This is part of the NFF’s strategic effort to build the capacity of coaches across the country,” Eguavoen said.

According to the federation, the CAF B-License refresher course will take place from June 20 to June 24, 2026, while the CAF A-License programme will be conducted in six modules between August 2, 2026, and February 7, 2027.

The upcoming programme marks a significant milestone for Nigerian football following the country’s recent readmission into the CAF A-License convention after a nine-year absence from the framework.

The NFF stated that applicants must be active elite-level coaches working with national teams or clubs in the NPFL, NNL, NWFL, or NLO. Candidates are also required to possess a CAF B diploma, demonstrate proficiency in English communication, and have adequate computer literacy with access to a laptop or tablet throughout the programme.

Applicants must further submit a medical certificate confirming physical and mental fitness, alongside a curriculum vitae and a reference letter.

The federation disclosed that only 25 candidates will be selected for the CAF A-License programme after undergoing pre-assessment tests and participating in the CAF B refresher exercise. Successful applicants will subsequently gain access to the CAF CMS platform to begin the licensing process.

Pre-course assessments for both programmes will evaluate candidates in game analysis, reading and writing, presentation skills, and computer literacy. The assessments will be conducted through a combination of virtual and physical sessions between June 1 and June 23, 2026.

For the CAF A-License programme, Nigerian applicants are expected to pay a fee of N3 million, while foreign applicants will pay $3,000. The CAF B refresher course fee for Nigerian coaches has been fixed at N700,000.

The NFF added that applications for the CAF A-License course will close on May 31, 2026.
