Nigeria Vs Egypt: Super Eagles Boosted By Ndidi’s Return
By Niyi Busari
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi is set to return to the starting line-up for Nigeria’s third-place playoff clash against Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria and Egypt will meet on Saturday following their respective semi-final defeats. Egypt were edged out 1–0 by Senegal, while Nigeria suffered a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout loss to tournament hosts Morocco after regulation time ended level.
Ndidi, formerly of Leicester City, missed Nigeria’s semi-final encounter due to the accumulation of yellow cards. The experienced midfielder is expected to lead the Super Eagles in what will be their final match of the tournament as they compete for the bronze medal.
However, Nigeria will be without defender Calvin Bassey, who is suspended after receiving a booking in the semi-final. Bassey had been one of the standout performers for the Super Eagles during the competition, and his absence will be felt at the back.
Despite falling short of the final, Nigeria’s performances at the tournament have been widely praised by supporters. Many fans have expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall display and have called on the Nigeria Football Federation to extend the contract of head coach Eric Chelle.
