Nigeria has secured its first medal at the ongoing World Wrestling Series Tournament in Mongolia, with African champion Christianah Ogunsanya delivering an impressive performance for Team Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ogunsanya claimed the bronze medal after defeating home favourite Bayanmunkh of Mongolia via a 6-6 technical criteria victory in the medal bout.
The Nigerian wrestler had earlier dominated Mongolia's Tsovoo Gankhuyag, winning by a 10-0 technical superiority margin to advance in the competition.
However, her quest for a place in the final was halted by Japan's Kiyooka M, who secured a convincing 10-0 technical superiority victory in the semi-final clash.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing outing for Commonwealth Games champion Mercy Genesis, who narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
Genesis suffered a 7-2 defeat against Turkey's Evin Demirhan in her classification bout.
Ogunsanya's bronze medal provides Nigeria with its first podium finish of the championship as the country's wrestlers continue their campaign in Mongolia.
