Nigeria’s Table Tennis Elite To Converge In Osun In April
By Niyi Busari
The town of Otan Ayegbaju in Osun State is set to host some of Nigeria’s finest table tennis players as preparations intensify for the sixth edition of the Michael and Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The championship will take place from April 12 to April 17, 2026, at the Idera Multipurpose Hall, which will serve as the venue for the week-long competition.
Established in memory of the late Michael and Felicia Alabi, the annual tournament has grown beyond its commemorative origins to become an important platform for discovering and developing table tennis talent across Nigeria.
Organisers expect more than 250 players from all 36 states of the federation to participate in the competition, turning Otan Ayegbaju into a major centre for table tennis activities during the event.
Participants will compete in multiple categories, including Under-15 singles, senior events, veteran divisions, as well as competitions for para-athletes and deaf athletes. The inclusive structure of the tournament allows young prospects, experienced professionals, and veteran players to compete on the same stage.
Beyond the matches, the event is also expected to attract coaches, scouts, sports administrators, and table tennis enthusiasts from across the country, further enhancing its reputation as one of the notable grassroots tournaments in Nigeria.
Organisers say the competition remains committed to promoting the growth of the sport while providing opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their abilities on a national stage.
