Nigeria vs Gabon: Match Preview, Date, and Kickoff Time Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup Playoff

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set for a decisive clash against Gabon in the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. (Nigerian time) in Morocco.

This semi-final fixture carries immense significance for Nigeria, who are determined to return to football’s biggest stage after missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Super Eagles reached the playoff round following an emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic in their final group match — a performance that underlined their attacking prowess and title credentials.

Star striker Victor Osimhen was the standout performer in that match, scoring a sensational hat-trick, while Frank Onyeka added a late goal to seal the win.

For Gabon, this tie represents a historic opportunity. The Panthers finished second in Group F behind Ivory Coast to reach this stage and are now eyeing their first-ever World Cup qualification. Their blend of youth and experience, led by the likes of Denis Bouanga and Aaron Boupendza, makes them a potential threat to Nigeria’s ambitions.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Morocco as the neutral venue, setting the stage for a tense and unpredictable contest.

Nigeria will have to cope without Semi Ajayi, who is suspended after accumulating two yellow cards in the qualifiers. His absence will likely force head coach Eric Chelle to make defensive adjustments, but the Super Eagles’ attacking trio of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze are expected to spearhead the team’s offensive efforts.

The semi-final will be decided in a single-leg format, with the winner advancing to the final playoff on November 16. Victory there would secure a place in the intercontinental playoffs set for March 2026, offering a final route to the World Cup jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

For Nigeria, it’s a chance to reassert their dominance in African football. For Gabon, it’s an opportunity to make history on the world stage.
