Nigerian Navy Stands Tall As Champions of Democracy Day Volleyball Tournaments

The Nigerian Navy emerged as the standout team at the 2026 Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Democracy Day Volleyball Championship, winning both the men's and women's titles at the Aguiyi Ironsi Indoor Sports Hall in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In the men's final, the Navy defeated the Nigerian Army 25-21 to claim the championship crown after a hard-fought encounter between the two military sides.
The women's team completed the double for the Navy, overcoming the Nigerian Army 25-17 in the final to secure the second title of the tournament.
The Navy's triumph capped an impressive campaign that saw its men's team defeat the Nigerian Air Force 2-0 (25-13, 25-13) in the semi-finals. The Nigerian Army booked their place in the final with a convincing 2-0 (25-9, 25-18) victory over Defence Headquarters.
Four teams participated in this year's championship, namely the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, and Defence Headquarters.
The competition also featured cash rewards for outstanding performances. As champions in both the men's and women's categories, the Nigerian Navy earned a total prize of ₦1 million, receiving ₦500,000 for each title won.
The runners-up in both categories received ₦300,000, while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award attracted a cash prize of ₦100,000.
The championship formed part of activities marking Nigeria's Democracy Day celebrations and provided an opportunity for the nation's military institutions to showcase their sporting talent while promoting unity, discipline, and healthy competition through volleyball.
