North African Clash End Goalless As USFAS Bamako Claim Debut Win In CAF Women’s Champions League

Mali’s USFAS Bamako made a dream start to their continental campaign with a comeback victory as the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) kicked off on Saturday at the Right to Dream Stadium in Cairo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Malian champions, who qualified as winners of the WAFU-A regional tournament, overturned a first-half deficit to defeat 15 de Agosto of Equatorial Guinea 2–1 in a hard-fought Group A encounter.

After trailing at the break, Maïmouna Traoré levelled the score in the 69th minute from the penalty spot before Awa Diarra completed the turnaround with a well-placed header from a corner in the closing stages. The result marked a memorable debut for both clubs in Africa’s premier women’s club football competition.

In the day’s later fixture, AS FAR Rabat of Morocco last season’s runners-up were held to a goalless draw by Egypt’s FC Masar, who finished third in 2024, in a closely contested encounter at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.

The draw leaves both sides level on one point after the opening round of matches in Group A.

Action resumes on Sunday as Group B gets underway in Ismailia, where reigning champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo will face Ivorian heavyweights ASEC Mimosas in a highly anticipated clash. Later, Gaborone United of Botswana meet JKT Queens of Tanzania to wrap up the first round of fixtures.
