Obasa Games 2025 Ends With Future Stars Crowned Champions

After a month of thrilling sporting events across various venues in Lagos State, the 2025 Obasa Games have reached a victorious conclusion, with Future Stars claiming the championship title, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

They decisively defeated Goal Getters in a nail-biting penalty shootout, winning 6–5. The final unfolded at Anwar-Islam Model College in Oniwaya, Agege, and attracted the attention of three European football scouts as well as several esteemed sports legends.

Around 10,000 student-athletes from different Educational Districts participated, with athletes from District 1 notably dominating the podium.

These young competitors not only created lasting memories but also forged connections that will inspire a new generation of sports stars representing both Team Lagos and Nigeria.

At the closing ceremony's media briefing, the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), Hon. Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, articulated his strong sentiments about this multi-sport event.

"The Obasa Games 2025 was as exhilarating and impactful as ever," he asserted.

 "We witnessed countless student-athletes pour their hearts into their quest for greatness. In the football final, the tension was palpable throughout the 90 minutes, and ultimately, Future Stars emerged as deserving champions.

"We take immense pride in the Obasa Games. This marks our third consecutive year hosting this multi-sport event, and we have refined our approach through invaluable lessons learned, significantly enhancing the competition for our young athletes in Lagos State.

"This year, we expanded our reach across Lagos, particularly within the Educational Districts, showcasing six competitive sporting events. Congratulations to all the stars we've identified.

 "For the football segment, we engage scouts annually to uncover emerging talents and have increased the total prize pool to ₦12 million, rewarding our young athletes for their relentless efforts.

"As we look forward to next year, we plan to introduce even more sports and extend our reach within Lagos to ensure that undiscovered talents have the opportunity to participate. Sports is a significant business opportunity, and we believe every young athlete has the potential to secure a prosperous future through it.

"We are also leveraging the Obasa Games to engage our youth. As reiterated by the Lagos State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, we will launch the Agege Football League for academies to compete in on weekends, while also enhancing local sports facilities, including the construction of 5-a-side and 7-a-side pitches in Agege.

 "With nearly one million residents in Agege, 60% of whom are under 30, the potential for sports development is immense. Not every young person will pursue academics, trades, or creative endeavours; some will excel in sports.

"We've witnessed Morocco's success in football following facility upgrades, and that's why we are committed to creating an environment in Agege that nurtures young talents. Our goal is to redefine the approach to sports development here."

The total prize pool amounted to ₦12 million, with ₦6 million distributed among the champion and the first and second runners-up (₦3.5 million, ₦1.5 million, and ₦1 million respectively), while outstanding student-athletes in Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Boxing, and Athletics also shared the remaining ₦6 million.
