Okonkwo Hits 10 Clean Sheets As Wrexham Secure Crucial Win
By BSN Sports
Arthur Okonkwo continued his impressive campaign by recording his 10th clean sheet of the season as Wrexham secured a hard-fought 1–0 away victory over Charlton Athletic in a Championship fixture at The Valley, BSNSprts.com.ng reports.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper delivered another assured performance between the posts, underlining his growing reputation during a standout season for the promotion-chasing Welsh side.
The decisive moment of the contest came in the 30th minute when Ollie Rathbone found the net to hand Wrexham the lead. However, the visitors were indebted to Okonkwo late in the game for preserving all three points.
In the 90th minute, a defensive clearance fell invitingly to Sonny Carey on the edge of the area. His powerful volley appeared destined for the net, but Okonkwo reacted sharply to produce a superb save, ensuring Wrexham left London with maximum points.
The former Arsenal F.C. academy graduate has now kept nine clean sheets in the Championship this season. He also remained unbeaten as Wrexham overcame Ipswich Town F.C. to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Okonkwo’s consistent performances have attracted attention in Nigeria, with growing speculation that he could earn a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles for the March international window. Having pledged his international future to Nigeria, the shot-stopper has long been monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Former NFF president Amaju Pinnick had previously recommended him for national team consideration, though then-head coach Gernot Rohr opted against an early senior call-up, citing his youth at the time.
Now firmly established and delivering commanding performances week after week, Okonkwo appears to have come of age — and may soon be rewarded on the international stage.
