Okoye Still Our First Choice Goalkeeper – Udinese Coach

Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaic has reaffirmed that Nigerian international Maduka Okoye remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Okoye made his return to the squad in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Cremonese after serving a suspension over alleged involvement in a betting scandal related to a match against Lazio.

The Super Eagles shot-stopper has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.

During Okoye’s absence, Romanian goalkeeper Răzvan Sava impressed between the sticks for the Zebras, sparking debate over the team’s goalkeeping hierarchy.

However, Runjaic has now put all doubts to rest.

“Okoye has always been our number one, even when he wasn’t available,” Runjaic told the club’s official website.

“I’m happy he’s back. I can’t say if he’ll start in Cremona, but he’s ready.”

“He has trained well and used this time to reflect and grow stronger. We’re happy to have him back and we have full confidence in him.”
