Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has shed light on why Europe’s elite clubs steered clear of signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, despite his talent and proven goal-scoring record, BSNSports.com.ng reports

Speaking in a video widely shared on social media, the ex-Nigeria captain broke down the real financial burden of landing Osimhen estimating the total package at around €187 million over four years.

“Let’s get one thing clear for fans, football is about passion and love, but for the people running it, it’s pure business,” Oliseh said.

While Napoli’s reported asking price stood at €75 million, Oliseh explained that the actual cost was far higher once additional clauses and salary demands were factored in.

His calculation included: €75 million transfer fe,e A 10% future resale clause for Napol,i €15 million net annual salary for Osimhe,n amounting to about €112 million over a four-year deal once grossed up.

“That’s the real cost of acquiring and maintaining Osimhen,” Oliseh noted.

“His wages alone are the biggest stumbling block for clubs.”

This price tag reportedly deterred Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea, both of whom were heavily linked but unwilling to meet Napoli’s valuation.

Osimhen’s drawn-out transfer saga ended with a record-breaking move to Turkish champions Galatasaray, who paid the full €75 million fee upfront and agreed to his €15 million net salary making it the most expensive signing in Turkish football history.

The 26-year-old missed Galatasaray’s opening Super Lig match, a 3-0 win over Gaziantep, as he finalised his move amid an increasingly tense relationship with Napoli.
