Over 115 African Clubs Meet To Address CAF Inter-Club Competition Challenges

More than 115 clubs participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup held a virtual meeting on Friday to discuss the logistical and financial challenges facing teams competing in Africa’s continental club competitions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The meeting was chaired by African Clubs Association chairman, Eng. Hersi Said, with CAF Finance Director Richard Torsu of Ghana also in attendance.

Key issues discussed included complicated travel arrangements, lengthy transit routes, transfers between different airports and countries, and the rising cost of international travel.

The clubs also discussed the possibility of solidarity funds to support teams taking part in CAF’s inter-club competitions.

As part of efforts to address the financial burden, participating clubs were asked to prepare detailed travel budgets outlining their expected expenses and submit them to CAF for consideration.

Eng. Hersi Said assured the clubs of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s full support as the Confederation works to tackle the logistical and financial difficulties affecting participating teams.

The initiative is aimed at simplifying travel arrangements, reducing unnecessary costs and improving the overall experience for clubs competing in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
