Poland Coach Faces Selection Dilemma Ahead Matches Against Nigeria

By BSN Sports

Poland head coach Jan Urban has voiced concerns over the physical condition and mental preparedness of his players as they gear up for international friendly matches against Ukraine and Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Polish national team will begin its summer programme with a fixture against Ukraine at the Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław before facing Nigeria's Super Eagles in a high-profile encounter at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw three days later.

Urban admitted that preparations have been far from ideal, with several members of his squad arriving directly from post-season breaks following the conclusion of their club campaigns.

Speaking at a press conference in Wrocław, the Poland coach revealed that managing player fitness and motivation would be one of his biggest challenges ahead of the two friendlies.

"Many players, probably around twelve, arrived in Wrocław straight from their holidays," Urban said.

"Some of them finished their seasons two weeks ago, and it is difficult for players to remain in full training mode when they are already thinking about rest and preparing for the next campaign."

The former Poland international acknowledged that the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the next FIFA World Cup has also affected the atmosphere within the squad.

Despite those concerns, Urban remains focused on ensuring his team delivers competitive performances against both Ukraine and Nigeria as preparations continue.

Poland have assembled a strong squad for the friendlies, including captain and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, midfielder Nicola Zalewski, Jakub Piotrowski and defender Jakub Kiwior.

The clash against Nigeria is expected to provide a stern test for the European side, with the Super Eagles also looking to use the fixture to assess their squad and build momentum ahead of future international assignments.

With both teams eager to finish the international window on a positive note, the encounter in Warsaw promises to be an intriguing contest despite Urban's concerns over the readiness of some of his players.Note: For publication, it may be necessary to independently verify the clubs listed for some Poland players, as the source report appears to contain potential inaccuracies regarding current club affiliations.
