As the new English Championship season approaches, Premier League legend Darren Ambrose has expressed strong confidence in Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Akpom, who recently returned to English football, joined Ipswich Town after stints in the Netherlands with Ajax and in France with LOSC Lille.
He is expected to play a pivotal role in Ipswich’s push for promotion to the Premier League.
“I think he’ll be the main man, the main focal point wherever he goes,” Ambrose said.
With Liam Delap departing for Chelsea, Akpom is seen as the ideal candidate to fill the gap in Ipswich’s attack. Ambrose praised Akpom’s experience and goal-scoring pedigree, highlighting his previous spells with clubs like Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, and Hull City.
“He came through the ranks at Arsenal, so you know he has the talent. He’s played across various leagues in Europe and has valuable experience that can benefit Ipswich.”
Despite his optimism, Ambrose believes the club still needs to strengthen further, especially following the exits of key players like Delap and Sam Morsy.
“If Ipswich can get this deal over the line and maybe add a couple more players, it’ll be a great move for them,” the former Crystal Palace midfielder concluded.
