Qualification Period For 2027 World Athletics Championships Begins

The qualification window for the 2027 World Athletics Championships officially opened today for the majority of events, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

Athletes aiming to secure entry standards for the Beijing championships must now begin posting qualifying performances.

According to World Athletics, all performances for entry standards must be achieved in a competition in World Ranking Category C or above.

The qualifying period for most disciplines runs from August 23, 2026, to midnight on August 22, 2027.

The system aims for roughly 40% of athletes to qualify via entry standards and 60% through world rankings.

Performances in lower-category competitions will still count toward rankings but will not count toward automatic entry standards.

The World Athletics Championships Beijing 2027 are scheduled for 2027 at the National Stadium.
