Ranking: Amusan Enters 2026 In World Top Three

World record holder Tobi Amusan has kicked off 2026 on a strong note after finishing the 2025 season ranked among the world’s top three athletes in the women’s 100m hurdles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian hurdling star concluded the year as the third-best athlete in her event on the World Athletics rankings, underlining her continued dominance on the global stage. 

Amusan amassed a total of 1,430 ranking points, placing her behind only Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji and American Grace Stark.

Amusan’s impressive ranking was bolstered by her silver medal performance in the 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, further cementing her status as one of the sport’s elite performers.

In addition to Amusan, two other Nigerian athletes Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi also finished the 2025 season ranked among the world’s top 100 athletes. 

Their performances in the hurdles and shot put events respectively ensured Nigeria maintained a strong presence in global athletics rankings.

Amusan remains the only Nigerian woman ranked in the top five of her discipline and also holds the 28th position in the overall women’s rankings for 2025, a testament to her consistency and excellence at the highest level of competition.
