Report Reveals Details of Pape Thiaw's Outrageous Contract Negotiations with Senegal

Fresh details have emerged regarding the contract negotiations between Senegal national team head coach Pape Thiaw and the Senegalese Football Federation during the Lions of Teranga's trip to the United States, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to journalist Bacary Cissé, the negotiations were marked by prolonged discussions, government intervention and fears of a possible boycott before an agreement was eventually reached.

The report claimed that Thiaw's initial demands included a monthly salary of approximately $89,000, a signing bonus of about $642,000, a World Cup qualification bonus of around $268,000, and an annual image rights bonus worth roughly $89,000.

 It also stated that his monthly salary would rise to approximately $112,000 if Senegal reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

Cissé further revealed that after a telephone conversation with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye while the squad was in the United States, Thiaw revised his demands. 

Although he reportedly agreed to reduce his monthly salary request to about $54,000, he sought a signing bonus of approximately $785,000, special bonuses totaling about $892,000, and a staggering $1.78 million bonus if Senegal won the FIFA World Cup.

The report also alleged that hours before Senegal's clash against Norway, Thiaw made his presence on the bench conditional on the signing of his contract, creating further tension.

Following another round of negotiations, both parties reportedly reached a compromise. 

Thiaw accepted a net monthly salary of around $54,000 and a signing bonus of approximately $214,000, which the Senegalese government would pay in quarterly installments of about $54,000 each.

In addition, the coach reportedly requested a federation bonus equivalent to one percent of the prize money if Senegal won a major tournament, along with a special bonus of approximately $321,000, to be paid over three years at about $9,000 per month.

Neither the Senegalese Football Federation nor Pape Thiaw has officially commented on the reported details of the negotiations.
