Samuel Ogazi, the Nigerian sprint sensation who dominated the 400m for the University of Alabama, has officially declared his entry into professional athletics, ending his collegiate career after just three standout seasons, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The decision comes on the heels of an extraordinary 2026 campaign in which Ogazi rewrote the record books. 

Two weeks ago, he clocked a blistering 43.38 seconds, moving him to fourth on the all-time world list and cementing his status as one of the premier 400m talents on the planet.

Ogazi first announced his arrival on the international stage by breaking Nigeria’s long-standing national record with a time of 44.02 seconds.

 He then proceeded to lower it three more times in rapid succession 43.95, 43.82, and finally his personal best of 43.38 seconds all within the 2026 season.

Throughout his time at Alabama, Ogazi set multiple school records and concluded his NCAA career as the fastest 400m runner in collegiate history. 

His explosive performances earned him widespread acclaim and positioned him as a favorite for major international honors, including future Olympic and World Championship campaigns representing Nigeria.
