Senegal World Cup Ticketing Scandal: $88,000 At Centre Of Investigation

A ticketing controversy surrounding Senegal’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has taken a legal turn, with the country’s Go-Gaïndé supporters’ committee filing a complaint over an alleged 50 million FCFA ($88,300) discrepancy, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to reports, the complaint was lodged with Senegal’s Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) against Elite Sports Events Management, an organisation authorised by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) to obtain and market a portion of the World Cup tickets.

The financial dispute reportedly involves nearly 60 million FCFA ($105,900) expected from the ticketing operation, of which only 10 million FCFA ($17,700) was allegedly returned to the supporters.

The outstanding 50 million FCFA ($88,300) is now at the centre of the investigation as the DIC seeks to establish what happened to the funds.

Iyane Thiam, described as a key intermediary in the operation, has reportedly been questioned by investigators.

Thiam has denied responsibility for the outstanding amount. The Director-General of Elite Sports Events Management, Madou Diène, has also been directly implicated in the case.

The DIC is continuing its investigation, with authorities expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the disputed funds and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.

The allegations remain under investigation, and no individual has been found guilty of any offence at this stage.
