Sociedad Opens Door For Sadiq’s Qatar Exit

The future of Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq at Real Sociedad is hanging in the balance, with reports indicating that the Spanish club is encouraging him to leave before the Qatar Stars League transfer window closes, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Sadiq, was handed a squad number for the 2025/26 season, but despite that formality, he has been effectively frozen out of the first-team setup at Anoeta.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Super Eagles forward no longer features in the plans of head coach Sergio Francisco.
The former Almería and Partizan Belgrade man has not been involved in Sociedad’s matchday squads this season.
Instead, he has been placed on an individual training programme, which the club officially describes as part of his effort to regain full fitness.
However, sources suggest the move clearly signals that the Nigerian international should seek opportunities elsewhere.
Sadiq joined La Real in 2022 after an impressive spell with Almería but has struggled for consistency since suffering a long-term knee injury in his debut season.
Although he returned to action last year, competition for places in Sociedad’s attack has limited his chances, with Takefusa Kubo, Sheraldo Becker, and André Silva preferred up front.
Clubs in the Qatar Stars League are monitoring his situation and could make a late swoop before their transfer window shuts later this month.
A move to the Gulf could offer Sadiq a fresh start and regular playing time, as well as a lucrative contract.
For now, Sociedad appear ready to sanction his departure if an acceptable offer arrives.
Whether Sadiq chooses to remain in Europe or explore a switch to the Middle East will likely be decided in the coming days.
