South Africa Will Go Five Years Backwards If They Appoint Mosimane – Broos Warns
Sampson Adedeji
South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has warned that appointing Pitso Mosimane as the next Bafana Bafana coach could set the national team back five years, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
South Africa are currently without a permanent head coach, with former coach Mosimane reportedly among the candidates being considered for the vacant position.
Mosimane is one of South Africa’s most successful coaches, having led Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League title in 2016.
However, Broos believes his appointment would be a step backwards for the national team.
“South Africa still doesn’t have a coach. The candidate is Pitso Mosimane, a successful South African coach,” Broos said.
“However, they know when he comes, they go five years back in time.”
Broos also claimed that club owners and agents had attempted to influence coaching appointments during his time in charge.
“Club owners and agents are calling coaches to influence the selection. I threw them all out,” he added. “When someone called, I sadly flatly said, ‘I don’t talk with agents.’”
Broos’ comments are likely to generate further debate over the process of appointing the next Bafana Bafana coach, with Mosimane remaining a prominent name linked with the position.
