Sporting Lagos Beat Remo Stars To Win 2026 ValueJet Cup

Sporting Lagos have been crowned champions of the 2026 ValueJet Cup after defeating Remo Stars 2-1 in the final.

Aliyu Baba and Sodiq Ayoade were on target for Sporting Lagos, while Taiwo Oyetunde scored Remo Stars’ lone goal as the Lagos-based side secured victory in the final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sporting Lagos’ success caps an impressive campaign in the off-season tournament, which brings together leading Nigerian clubs and provides teams with an opportunity to fine-tune their squads ahead of the new football season. The 2026 edition was played from August 9 to 16 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The ValueJet Cup has increasingly become an important part of the Nigerian football calendar, offering clubs competitive matches during the off-season while giving coaches the chance to assess players, test tactical approaches and build match fitness.

For Sporting Lagos, the triumph provides an early boost ahead of the new NPFL campaign, while Remo Stars will have to settle for the runners-up position after falling short in the final.

The 2026 tournament was also dedicated to the memory of Otunba Tade Azeez, a prominent Nigerian football administrator and former chairman of the ValueJet Cup, whose contributions to the development of football and refereeing in Nigeria were widely recognised.

With the final now concluded, attention will turn to the preparations of the participating clubs for the forthcoming 2026/27 NPFL season, with Sporting Lagos entering the next campaign as ValueJet Cup champions.
