Sports Minister, SAFA Clash Over $1.75 Million VAR Funding

South African Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has accused the South African Football Association (SAFA) of failing to implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology despite the government releasing $1.75 million for the project, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

McKenzie said the funds were paid to SAFA specifically for the introduction of VAR, but the technology is yet to be implemented in South African football.

The minister has given SAFA 23 days to take action and ensure the project moves forward.

McKenzie also warned that he is prepared to report the matter to FIFA if the delay persists, escalating the dispute between the Sports Ministry and the country's football governing body.

The development has raised concerns over the management of funds earmarked for improving football infrastructure and officiating standards in South Africa.
