Star Striker Dumps Nigeria For Malawi
Sampson Adedeji
FCB Nyasa Bullets striker Babatunde Adepoju has officially switched his international allegiance from Nigeria to Malawi after completing his naturalization process, clearing the path for him to represent the Flames on the global stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Adepoju, widely regarded as one of the most lethal forwards in the Malawian Super League, confirmed his Malawian citizenship this week — a move that has sparked excitement among fans eager to see him in the national colours.
The powerful frontman, renowned for his pace, strength, and sharp eye for goal, has been instrumental for Nyasa Bullets in both domestic and continental competitions.
His decision is being hailed as a major boost for Malawi’s World Cup qualifying campaign, where firepower in attack has often been a concern.
Reports indicate that his documentation is already being finalized, with only a Malawian passport standing between him and his debut in the Flames’ iconic red jersey.
Officials of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) described the development as a “big step forward” for the squad, confident that Adepoju’s presence will provide much-needed depth and quality in attack.
Flames supporters are equally optimistic, believing his inclusion could be the spark that drives the team closer to its dream of qualifying for a FIFA World Cup for the first time.
If all goes smoothly, Adepoju is expected to feature in the upcoming qualifiers, where his goal-scoring prowess and wealth of African club football experience could prove invaluable to Malawi’s ambitions.
