Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has been named Rangers FC’s Player of the 2025/26 season following an outstanding debut campaign with the Scottish club, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Fernandez, who joined Rangers FC in July 2025 from Peterborough United, enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence, establishing himself as one of the team’s most consistent performers.

The Nigerian defender made an immediate impact at Ibrox, scoring on his debut in November 2025 to announce his arrival in style. His impressive displays earned him the club’s Player of the Month award in January 2026.

Fernandez’s fine club form was soon rewarded on the international stage, as he received his first call-up to the Nigeria national football team in March 2026. He marked his debut with a goal, further underlining his growing reputation.

By April 2026, his consistent performances and leadership at the back saw him crowned Rangers Player of the Season, capping a remarkable first year at the club.

The 2025/26 campaign saw Fernandez feature in 29 matches across all competitions, contributing six goals from defence an impressive return that highlights his attacking threat alongside his defensive solidity.

His emergence is expected to strengthen both Rangers’ ambitions domestically and in Europe, while also providing a major boost for Nigeria’s defensive options ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
