Super Eagles Eye Fourth Title As CAF Confirms AFCON 2027 Dates

Super Eagles will have a renewed opportunity to compete for continental honours following the confirmation of dates for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations by the Confederation of African Football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
CAF announced on Tuesday that the tournament will be staged from June 19 to July 18, 2027, signalling a return to a mid-year schedule. The competition will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The scheduling marks a shift from the previous edition, hosted by Morocco, which took place between December 2025 and January 2026.
For Nigeria, the tournament represents another chance to pursue a fourth AFCON title. The Super Eagles, now under the leadership of Eric Chelle, secured a third-place finish at the last edition and will be aiming to improve on that performance.
Before then, attention will turn to the qualification campaign. Nigeria is widely expected to be among the seeded teams, with the qualifying draw scheduled for later this year.
However, questions persist regarding the preparedness of the host nations. Reports indicate that infrastructure and organisational preparations in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are lagging behind schedule, raising concerns about their readiness to stage a tournament of such magnitude.
Despite these concerns, CAF has expressed confidence that the host countries will meet the required standards in time for the competition, which is expected to showcase the best of African football.
