Super Falcons head into their final Group C fixture against Egypt knowing that qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) remains firmly within their control, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The nine-time African champions currently occupy second place in the group with three points after two matches, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia and a subsequent defeat to group leaders Malawi.

Current Group C Standings

1. Malawi – 6 points

2. Nigeria – 3 points

3. Zambia – 3 points

4. Egypt – 0 points

Nigeria remain ahead of Zambia on the standings thanks to their superior head-to-head record after defeating the Copper Queens 1-0 earlier in the tournament.

The final Group C fixtures will be played simultaneously on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. Nigerian time, with Nigeria facing Egypt while Malawi take on Zambia.

What Happens if Nigeria Win?

Victory over Egypt would significantly strengthen Nigeria's chances of reaching the last eight.

- Nigeria qualify automatically if Malawi avoid defeat against Zambia.

- If Zambia also defeat Malawi, Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia would all finish on six points. In that case, qualification would be decided using a three-team head-to-head mini-table.

- Nigeria would progress in almost every possible mini-table outcome. The only exception would be if Zambia win by a single goal in a high-scoring match where Malawi score at least three goals—for example, 4-3 or 5-4.

What Happens if Nigeria Draw?

A draw against Egypt would be enough provided Malawi do not lose to Zambia.

However, if Zambia defeat Malawi, Nigeria would be eliminated despite avoiding defeat.

What Happens if Nigeria Lose?

Defeat would leave Nigeria relying on other results.

The Super Falcons could still qualify if Malawi beat Zambia and Nigeria lose to Egypt by no more than three goals.

Any other combination of results would see the defending champions exit the competition before the knockout stage.

The Simplest Qualification Route

The most straightforward path for Nigeria is clear:

- Avoid defeat against Egypt.

- Hope Malawi avoid defeat against Zambia.

If both conditions are met, the Super Falcons will secure a place in the WAFCON quarter-finals.

Failing to reach the knockout stage would rank among the biggest surprises of the competition, making Wednesday night's fixtures crucial for the team's ambitions.
