Super Falcons Camp Complete As Senegal Arrive for WAFCON Warm-Up Friendlies

Nigeria's preparations for the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) received a significant boost with the arrival of all invited players in the Super Falcons camp ahead of their international friendly matches against Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Lionesses of Teranga also arrived in Ikenne-Remo on Tuesday night for the two-match series scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex.

The first encounter will be played on Friday, while the return fixture is set for Monday. Both matches will kick off at 4 p.m.

Head Coach Justine Madugu has been handed a timely boost with the assembly of a largely full-strength squad, blending experienced internationals with emerging talents as Nigeria fine-tunes preparations for the continental showpiece in Morocco.

However, midfielder Halimat Ayinde will miss both friendlies, prompting Madugu to hand a late invitation to Israel-based midfielder Josephine Matthias. Forward Gift Monday was the only player still being expected in camp as of Wednesday evening.

The squad features a strong core of established stars, including Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe. They are joined by a number of promising younger players such as goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor, defenders Shukurat Oladipo and Rofiat Imuran, midfielders Josephine Matthias and Kafayat Shittu, and forwards Joy Omewa, Omorinsola Babajide and Blessing Nkor.

Nigeria will head into the 2025 WAFCON seeking a record-extending 11th continental title. The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi.

Senegal, meanwhile, will compete in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.

The tournament will take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16 and will also serve as the African qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. Africa's top four teams will secure automatic qualification, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental playoff for a chance to reach the global tournament.
