Super Falcons Intensify WAFCON Preparations As Babajide Arrives in Camp

Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin says winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in her maiden appearance for Nigeria remains one of the defining moments of her career and continues to inspire her pursuit of greater success with the national team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Demehin, who featured prominently in Nigeria's successful title-winning campaign, said the experience strengthened her belief in what the team can achieve and has become a constant source of motivation.

"Winning the gold medal and lifting the trophy in my first Women's AFCON made me feel very special," Demehin said.

"It gave me enormous confidence whenever I step onto the pitch, whether in a single match or an entire tournament. It showed me what is possible through hard work and teamwork.

"That success continues to motivate me to improve, contribute more to the team and fight alongside my teammates to defend our title in Morocco."

The Galatasaray defender has established herself as a key figure in the Super Falcons' defence since the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. She also played an important role in Nigeria's successful "Mission X" campaign, which saw the Falcons reclaim the African title.

Looking ahead to the upcoming championship, Demehin acknowledged that the competition will be more demanding following the expansion of the tournament to 16 teams but expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to retain the crown.

"The tournament will be tougher because more African teams have improved significantly," she said. "We are determined to succeed, but we must remain consistent, stay organised in defence, be creative in midfield and clinical in front of goal."

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons camp in Casablanca received another boost on Thursday with the expected arrival of AS Roma forward Omorinsola Babajide.

Her arrival increased the number of players in camp to 12 after newly signed Inter Milan midfielder Toni Payne also joined the squad earlier in the day, as preparations continue for Nigeria's title defence in Morocco.
