Super Falcons Star Oshoala Reacts to Eagles’ World Cup Play-Off Exit

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has expressed disappointment over the Super Eagles’ failure to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the team’s current form suggests they could have made a significant impact at the tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The expanded global showpiece — set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico — will run from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities.

Nigeria initially missed out on an automatic qualification spot before progressing to the African play-offs. However, the Super Eagles were edged out of a place in the intercontinental play-offs by DR Congo.

Despite the setback, the Nigeria Football Federation has lodged a protest with FIFA, alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the November 2026 World Cup African play-offs. The petition centres on claims of improper nationality switches by certain players. FIFA has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.

Reacting on social media to the impressive performances of several Nigerian players in European leagues, Oshoala suggested the team’s current form would have translated into a strong World Cup campaign.

“Nigeria for cook for that World Cup sha o, all our boys just dey cook this season,” she wrote, implying the side could have excelled on the global stage.

The intercontinental play-offs are scheduled to take place from March 26 to 31 in Mexico, increasing anticipation for FIFA’s verdict. DR Congo have been drawn to face the winner of the tie between New Caledonia and Jamaica for one of the two remaining World Cup slots.

As Nigerian fans await a decision, Oshoala’s remarks echo a broader sentiment among supporters who believe the Super Eagles’ recent resurgence could have been showcased on football’s biggest stage.
