Super Falcons To Host Cape Verde in April Friendly As Part Of WAFCON Preparations

 The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to face Cape Verde in an international friendly match this April as the African champions intensify preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to team sources, the encounter will take place on home soil, providing the Super Falcons with valuable match practice ahead of their title defence in Morocco. 

The squad is expected to open camp in Nigeria on April 11, marking the start of a crucial training phase following their recent two-legged friendly series against Cameroon.

The Super Falcons split the results against the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé earlier this year, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg before bouncing back strongly with a 3-1 victory in the return fixture. 

Those games served as an important test of character and squad depth for head coach Justin Madugu side.

With WAFCON 2026 drawing closer, the friendly against Cape Verde another team that qualified for the tournament offers Nigeria the chance to fine-tune tactics, integrate returning players, and build momentum. 

Cape Verde made history by qualifying for their first-ever WAFCON, adding extra significance to the matchup.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to announce full details, including the exact venue and whether the fixture will be a single game or a double-header, but indications point to the match being hosted in Nigeria to allow fans to rally behind the team.

As defending champions and Group C contenders alongside Zambia, Egypt, and debutants Malawi, the Super Falcons are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to retain the continental crown. 

The April camp and friendly are expected to form a key part of the build-up before the tournament.
