Team Nigeria Dominates Women’s Sprints at Abeokuta 2025 CAA U-18/U-20 Championships

 Team Nigeria showcased its sprinting strength on home soil, delivering commanding performances in the women’s 100m events at the ongoing Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18 and U-20 Championships at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In front of an enthusiastic local crowd, Nigerian athletes swept the podium in the U-18 women’s 100m final, with Miracle Ezechukwu taking gold in a time of 11.88 seconds. She was closely followed by Rosemary Nwankwo (11.96s) and Funke Jegede (12.20s), completing a clean sweep for the host nation.

The dominance continued in the U-20 women’s category as Chioma Nweke clinched gold with a solid 11.65-second finish. Her compatriot, Success Oyibu, earned silver in 11.78 seconds, while Chantel Lou Yoman of Côte d'Ivoire narrowly edged out Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nwankwo for bronze, finishing in 11.87 seconds.

In contrast, Nigeria’s male sprinters faced stiffer competition from their regional rivals. In the U-20 men’s 100m final, Clinton Owatinya of Kenya emerged victorious with a time of 10.42 seconds, ahead of Botswana’s Letebele Karabo (10.54s). Nigeria's Caleb John finished third in 10.61 seconds.

South Africa dominated the U-18 boys’ sprint, with Manavhela Mukona taking gold in 10.61 seconds. His compatriot Fourie Jayden followed in 10.76 seconds, while Nigeria’s Clifford Igbigbidje secured bronze with a 10.89-second run.

The championships continue on Friday, with more track and field events on the schedule as young African athletes vie for continental glory.
