Team Nigeria Touches Down in Ghana, Eyes Medals At African championship

Team Nigeria has arrived in Accra, Ghana, ahead of the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championship, which takes place from October 3 to 5, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The delegation, comprising a promising mix of young male and female swimmers, is reportedly in high spirits as they prepare to compete against some of the region’s best.

The team, which departed Nigeria on Thursday, wasted no time settling in, holding its first training session early Friday to acclimatize and fine-tune preparations ahead of the championship.

Led by the Secretary of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Taiwo Oriss, the contingent is under the technical guidance of Coach Abiodun Ojomo, who expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to represent the country with pride.

The Nigerian squad includes:

Dorcas Abeng, Agnes John, Tofunmi Ibidapo, Maryam Omodunmola Muhammed, Funmilayo Demehin, Aidan Dumuje-Abili, Timilehin Olaiya, Goodluck Godwin, and Endurance Olise

According to federation officials, the athletes are “highly motivated” and eager to make their mark on the continental stage.

The Africa Zone 2 Championship, organized under the Africa Aquatics umbrella, brings together swimmers from across West and Central Africa. The event is considered both a competitive platform for elite athletes and a key development opportunity for emerging talents.

Nigeria will be aiming to improve on its past performances and secure podium finishes, drawing on the youthful energy and ambition of its swimmers to make a strong impact.
