Three Lagos Clubs Set for NPFL As Sporting Lagos Earn Promotion

Sporting Lagos have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Osun United in Osogbo, a result that also confirmed the hosts’ relegation to the Nationwide League One (NLO), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Heading into the decisive final-day fixture, Sporting Lagos required a win to guarantee their return to the top flight, and they delivered with a disciplined and composed away performance. The victory ensured they finished top of Conference B with 36 points, sealing the lone promotion ticket.

For Osun United, the defeat brought a disappointing campaign to a close, as the club dropped to the third-tier NLO following a season marked by inconsistency.

Elsewhere, former NPFL champions Akwa United kept their promotion hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Solution FC in Awka. However, despite the victory, they fell just short, finishing second on 35 points—one point behind Sporting Lagos.

The final round of matches across Conference B produced mixed outcomes. First Bank FC played out a high-scoring 3-3 draw against Godswill Akpabio United, while Stormers suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Ekiti United. Calabar Rovers recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Abakaliki FC, but the result was not enough to preserve their status.

At the end of the campaign, First Bank FC, Osun United, and Calabar Rovers were relegated.

Sporting Lagos’ promotion also represents a notable milestone for football in Lagos State. For the first time, three Lagos-based clubs—Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, and Sporting Lagos—will feature in the NPFL next season.

Final Day Results – Conference B:

Solution FC 1-2 Akwa United

First Bank FC 3-3 Godswill Akpabio United

Stormers 0-2 Ekiti United

Calabar Rovers 1-0 Abakaliki FC

Osun United 0-1 Sporting Lagos
