Top Football Figures Present At Funeral of Dayo Enebi's Mother

Super Eagles Team Administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor, on Saturday laid his mother, Mrs. Ruth Bola Achor, to rest in Ilorin, Kwara State, in a ceremony attended by prominent figures from the sports community and beyond.

The funeral service, held at UMCA Church, Ilorin, drew family members, friends, and colleagues who gathered to honour the 75-year-old matriarch. Officiating Minister, Dr. Ebenezer Kayode-Provost, paid glowing tributes to Mrs. Achor, describing her as a woman of steadfast faith and urging the congregation to emulate her devotion and commitment to service.

Following the church service, a private interment took place before mourners reconvened at the Atlantic Event Centre for a reception. A delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by its President, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau, joined the family to offer condolences. Gusau praised the late Mrs. Achor for nurturing “a son whose loyalty and dedication have become invaluable to Nigerian football.”

Also in attendance was former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu, a sibling of the deceased; former NFF Secretary General, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba; and members of the Super Eagles backroom staff led by Patrick Pascal (MON), Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme and Dr. Robinson Okosun.

The ceremony attracted football administrators, ex-internationals, club officials and representatives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), underscoring the strong support for Enebi within the football fraternity.

Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Musa Thuraya, said the large turnout reflected the values instilled by the late matriarch. “Mrs. Achor lived a life of purpose,” he said. “Her influence is evident in Mr. Enebi’s professionalism and service. We stand with the family and pray for God’s strength.”

Friends and associates described her as kind, disciplined and deeply committed to raising her children with strong moral principles. SWAN’s Abuja chapter was represented by a delegation led by Richard Jideaka, who described the ceremony as “a celebration of Mama’s impactful life and legacy,” while praying for God’s comfort for the family.

Mrs. Ruth Bola Achor has since been laid to rest in Ilorin. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and numerous individuals whose lives she touched.
