Transfer Update: Ex-Super Eagles Captain Joins Qatar Side

Sampson Adedeji

Former Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has completed a move to Qatar, signing for Al Ahli SC from Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood, BSNSports.com.ng reports

The experienced centre-back has agreed to a two-year contract with the Doha-based side, with the deal set to run until June 2028.

Troost-Ekong arrives in Qatar bringing vast experience from several top footballing nations.

Prior to his stint in Saudi Arabia, the 31-year-old featured extensively across Europe, with spells in England, Turkey, Italy and the Netherlands, establishing himself as a reliable presence in defence wherever he played.

At international level, Troost-Ekong was a key figure for Nigeria for several years, earning over 60 caps and serving as captain of the Super Eagles.

He officially retired from international football a few months ago, drawing the curtain on a distinguished national team career.

His move to Al Ahli SC marks a new chapter in his club career as he looks to bring leadership and defensive solidity to the Qatari side ahead of the upcoming season.
