In a significant gesture of solidarity and national pride, six members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles have jointly donated ₦24 million to the Super Falcons in celebration of their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The donation was announced on Monday in a statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which commended the players for exemplifying unity and mutual respect across the country’s senior national teams.

The contributors include Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, along with teammates Olaoluwa Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo.

Their personal donations were made in tribute to the Super Falcons’ dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in Saturday’s WAFCON final. The win secured Nigeria a record-extending 10th continental title and further cemented the team’s dominance in African women’s football.

The Super Eagles’ contribution adds to the growing recognition being accorded to the Super Falcons for their outstanding achievement. In addition to widespread public acclaim, the team has received a range of national honours, including the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) title, a ₦10 million pledge from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and a reward of a three-bedroom flat plus ₦150 million cash-equivalent each from the federal government. The coaching staff also received commensurate awards, three bedroom flat and N75 Million each.

The outpouring of support has been hailed as a pivotal moment for women’s football in Nigeria, helping to further elevate its profile and inspire future generations.
