Tunisia Steps In as New Venue for 2025 ITTF-Africa Senior Championships
By Niyi Busari
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has announced a change of venue for the 2025 ITTF-Africa Senior Championships, with Tunis, Tunisia, confirmed as the new host city.
Originally scheduled to take place at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 12–19, 2025, the continental tournament will now be staged at the Salle Omnisport de Radès in Tunis on the same dates.
The decision, according to ITTF-Africa, followed a review prompted by unforeseen circumstances that affected Rwanda’s ability to host the championships as planned.
Tunisia, widely recognised as one of Africa’s most reliable hosts for major sporting events, was chosen as the replacement venue. The North African nation has consistently delivered world-class tournaments, including World Table Tennis (WTT) events, Continental Junior and Senior Championships, and most recently, the Africa Cup in February 2025.
Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Chief Operating Officer of ITTF-Africa, expressed confidence in Tunisia’s readiness to deliver a successful event, stressing that the country’s proven capacity ensures continuity for the championship.
The ITTF-Africa Senior Championships remain the continent’s most prestigious table tennis competition and will serve as a direct qualifier for the 2026 World Championships in London, England.
