After a disappointing campaign in Morocco, Bankole Olowookeere, head coach of Nigeria's U17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, has issued a heartfelt apology to Nigerians for the team’s poor performance at the 2023 U17 Women’s World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This year's outing marks one of the team’s worst performances in history. Out of four matches, the Flamingos managed only one win, losing three.

They scored five goals but conceded nine, failing to progress further in the tournament. In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Bankole expressed regret over the team's results.

"First of all, I want to apologize to our fans all over the world. We’re sorry it had to end this way," he said.

“There are lessons to learn and positives to take home. I’m proud of the girls because they gave their best," he added.
