Sampson Adedeji
Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookeere, has assured Nigerians that his team will put up a much-improved display in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Despite suffering defeats in their opening two group matches, the Nigerian girls managed to qualify for the knockout stage after bouncing back strongly in their final group fixture.
Bankole admitted that the team’s slow start was disappointing but believes lessons have been learned ahead of the next phase.
“Our start was disappointing, and we tried to make up for that. The girls are happy now; they still want to remain in the tournament they don’t want to go home,” he said.
“They had to step up their game to ensure we stayed among the contenders for the title. It’s also good that we faced strong opposition it helps us prepare better for the next challenge.”
The coach further stated that the technical crew will work on identified weaknesses before their next outing.
“We have to fix the areas where our opponents were able to penetrate. We’ll correct those mistakes and come back stronger,” he concluded.
