U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Aim To Rewrite History – Zubairu

With the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup set to take place in Chile from September 17 to October 19, Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has declared that his team is determined to go all the way and surpass Nigeria’s previous records at the tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The team opened a new phase of camping in Abuja last month, with Zubairu emphasizing that the target is nothing less than making history.
“Coming out of the group is non-negotiable,” the coach said in Abuja.
“We are studying our opponents closely — their strengths and individual qualities. We respect every team in our group but cannot compromise on our ambition. Our goal is to go further than Nigeria has ever gone before.”
Nigeria has twice finished as runners-up in the competition — in 1989, losing to Portugal, and in 2005, falling to Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
For this year’s edition, the Flying Eagles have been drawn into Group F, where they will face Colombia, Norway, and Saudi Arabia.
Their campaign kicks off against Norway on September 29, followed by a clash with Saudi Arabia on October 3, before rounding off the group stage against Colombia on October 6.
