Uganda Retain CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship Title with Dominant Victory Over Tanzania

Uganda's U-17 Women's National Team, the Teen Cranes, successfully defended their CECAFA U-17 Women's Championship title after a commanding 3-0 victory over hosts Tanzania in the final at KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The triumph capped an outstanding tournament campaign for Uganda, who won all five of their matches, scored 26 goals and finished the competition without conceding a single goal.

Under the guidance of head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes, the Teen Cranes once again demonstrated their superiority in the region, combining attacking flair with defensive solidity throughout the championship.

After a closely contested opening period, Uganda broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Justine Ayerango. The advantage was doubled just four minutes later when Brenda Nasaaka found the back of the net, giving the defending champions a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Tanzania attempted to mount a response through Yasinta Kaluwa and Bahati Kizanguzi, but Uganda's well-organised defence, led by captain Jovia Nakirya, remained resolute and denied the hosts any clear opportunities.

The Teen Cranes effectively put the contest beyond reach three minutes after the restart when Flavia Yagala scored Uganda's third goal of the evening, extending their lead and tightening their grip on the title.

Despite continued efforts from the hosts, goalkeeper Namuwaya Mayimuna delivered another composed performance between the posts to preserve Uganda's flawless defensive record and secure a fifth consecutive clean sheet of the tournament.

The victory confirmed Uganda's status as regional champions and highlighted the growing strength of the country's women's youth football programme.

The awards ceremony was attended by CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam, CECAFA Executive Committee Member Doris Petra, Tanzania Football Federation President and CAF Executive Committee Member Wallace Karia, and CECAFA Interim Executive Director Jean Seninde.
