Unity Cup: Crisis Rocks Super Eagles Opponent Camp, Head Coach Resigns
Sampson Adedeji
The Zimbabwe national team has been thrown into uncertainty ahead of their Unity Cup clash against Nigeria following the resignation of head coach Marian Marinica, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed that Marinica stepped down from his role as head coach of the senior men’s national team, citing personal reasons.
The federation has since accepted his resignation and expressed appreciation for his services to the Warriors.
In a swift response, ZIFA announced the appointment of former international Kaitano Tembo as interim head coach.
He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi as the team prepares for its upcoming fixtures.
The development comes just weeks before Zimbabwe’s crucial semi-final encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2026 Unity Cup. The match is scheduled to take place on May 26 at the Valley Ground in London.
The sudden coaching change is expected to pose a significant challenge for the Warriors as they attempt to reorganize and maintain stability ahead of the high-profile encounter.
