WAFCON 2026: FIFA President Infantino Hails Cameroon, Malawi, Morocco

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Cameroon following their historic triumph at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Cameroon secured their first-ever WAFCON title after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final, with the victory sparking celebrations across the Central African nation.

Reacting to the achievement, Infantino praised the Indomitable Lionesses for bringing joy to a football-loving country and described their success as a historic milestone.

 “Congratulations to Cameroon for its triumph in the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

"You have brought immense joy to this magnificent nation passionate about football that is yours through this first historic title,” Infantino said.

The FIFA president also commended Malawi for their impressive campaign, despite finishing as runners-up in their first-ever appearance at the continental tournament.

 “Bravo as well to Malawi for its memorable first participation, of which the entire country can be immensely proud,” he added.

Infantino further expressed appreciation to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), its president Patrice Motsepe, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation led by Fouzi Lekjaa, and the people of Morocco for hosting the tournament.

“A huge thank you to the CAF, led by its president Patrice Motsepe; to the Moroccan team and its president Fouzi Lekjaa; as well as to the entire wonderful Moroccan people for organizing this fantastic tournament that has put women's football in the spotlight,” he stated.

Cameroon’s victory marks a significant moment in the history of women’s football in the country, while Malawi’s run to the final represents a landmark achievement in their continental debut.
