Sampson Adedeji
Former champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa have announced a 31-player provisional squad for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Head coach Desiree Ellis named a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents as South Africa intensifies preparations for the continental showpiece, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 16.
The provisional squad will be trimmed to a final 26-player list before the team's departure to Morocco. South Africa, who won their maiden WAFCON title in 2022, will be looking to reclaim the continental crown after finishing fourth at the 2024 edition, where Nigeria emerged champions.
The squad is expected to assemble for a training camp in Johannesburg before travelling to Morocco for the final phase of preparations.
Banyana Banyana have been drawn in Group B alongside Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Tanzania, with their opening match scheduled against Tanzania on July 27.
