WAFCON 2026 Faces Another Postponement

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations may face another postponement due to a clash in the international sporting calendar, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was initially scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 4, 2026. 

However, the competition was recently moved to July 25 to August 16.

Fresh concerns have now emerged after it was discovered that the new dates overlap with the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will run from July 23 to August 2.

The scheduling conflict could affect participation, logistics and broadcast planning, prompting discussions about a possible adjustment to the timetable of the continental women’s championship.

Further complicating the calendar is the proximity of the tournament to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the women’s competition set to kick off barely a week after the global showpiece.

CAF is yet to make an official announcement on whether the tournament will be moved again, but stakeholders are monitoring the situation closely as they seek a workable solution for the competition.
