Why Osimhen, Ademola Lookman Are Left Out Of Poland And Portugal Friendlies - Chelle
By Niyi Busari
Nigeria will be without two of its key attacking players, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, for upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Poland on June 3, 2026, before taking on Portugal on June 10 as part of their preparations for future international competitions.
Speaking after Nigeria's triumph in the Unity Cup, where the Super Eagles secured a record fourth title, head coach Eric Chelle acknowledged that the absence of both forwards will be a significant setback for the team.
Chelle also revealed that visa-related issues have affected the availability of some players ahead of the European fixtures.
"We still have two games to play against Poland and Portugal, and we have several challenges," Chelle said.
"Some players are dealing with visa issues, including Tijani Yusuf. Most importantly, we will miss two key players. Victor Osimhen needs time to focus on his club situation and potential transfer, while Ademola Lookman is exhausted after a long season, and his club requested that he be given time to rest."
Despite the absence of two of their most influential forwards, the Super Eagles will look to build on the momentum generated by their recent Unity Cup success when they face two strong European opponents in the coming days.
