World Cup 2026: Egypt Camp Hit By Blow As FIFA Protocol Rules Out Star Player Of Clash Against Iran

Egypt's preparations for their decisive Group G clash against Iran have suffered a setback after defender Hossam Abdelmaguid was ruled out of the match despite being medically fit to play, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to reports from ON Sport, Abdelmaguid will miss Egypt's final group-stage encounter due to FIFA's concussion and head injury protocols.

The centre-back sustained a head injury during Egypt's previous match and was substituted as a precaution. Under FIFA regulations, players withdrawn because of a head injury are required to observe a mandatory recovery period before returning to action.

Although Abdelmaguid has recovered and is available from a medical standpoint, the defender remains ineligible for selection as the encounter against Iran falls on the fifth day following the incident. 

FIFA's guidelines stipulate that he cannot return to competitive action until a full week has elapsed.

His absence is a significant blow for the Pharaohs as they prepare for a crucial showdown with Iran, with qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

Egypt will now be forced to reshuffle their defensive setup as they seek a positive result in the Group G finale and a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
