Egypt have been dealt a major injury setback ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 clash against Australia, with captain Mohamed Salah joining the team's growing list of fitness concerns, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Salah sustained a hamstring strain during Egypt's group-stage match against Iran and has already begun his rehabilitation programme after being forced off the pitch. 

His availability for the crucial knockout encounter remains uncertain.

The Pharaohs are also expected to be without left-back Ahmed Fattouh, who suffered a hamstring tear and is unlikely to recover in time for the meeting with Australia.

Defender Mohamed Abdelmonem is another injury concern after picking up an ankle problem, leaving his participation in serious doubt.

The trio's injuries represent a significant blow to Egypt's hopes of progressing to the Round of 16 as they prepare to face Australia in a high-stakes knockout fixture.
