World Cup 2026: Switzerland Send Algeria Crashing

 Algeria’s hopes of progressing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup were extinguished on Friday morning as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to a clinical Switzerland side.

The North Africans were eliminated from the tournament after failing to find a way back into the match despite sustained pressure in the second half. 

Switzerland, who looked sharp and organised throughout, secured the three points with goals from Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye.

Embolo opened the scoring in the 10th minute, capitalising on a swift Swiss counter-attack to give his team an early lead. 

The forward’s clinical finish set the tone for a disciplined Swiss performance that frustrated Algeria’s attacking ambitions.

Just one minute into the second half, Ndoye doubled Switzerland’s advantage in the 46th minute with a well-taken goal that effectively ended Algeria’s chances of mounting a comeback.

Despite throwing numbers forward in search of a response, Algeria were unable to break down the Swiss defence. Their efforts proved fruitless as the European side maintained control and defended resolutely to see out the victory.

The result marks the end of Algeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign, while Switzerland advance with renewed confidence from a solid group-stage performance.
